Wesley and Sheryl were stunned at the doctor's news: their precious baby girl was diagnosed with a genetic mutation. And it was because they were Mennonites? How could their heritage have caused baby Louisa so much suffering?

MSUD (maple syrup urine disease) turned the Leinbach family's world upside down. Louisa was on a restrictive diet and was in and out of the hospital. Should Wesley and Sheryl risk having more children, knowing they could also inherit the mutation? Should they pursue a liver transplant for Louisa?

A Fragile Heritage tells the Leinbach family's story and incorporates fascinating research on genetic disease. It addresses questions about genetic mutations resulting from overlapping ancestry of many Mennonites and Amish today. It also answers a deeper question: In a world of imperfection, how can we believe in a perfect God?

Amazing book

So well written. Takes you into the heart and mind of a mom whose daughter has MSUD. I encourage anyone who has any contact with families whose lives a touched by MSUD(or even other chronic illnesses) to read it. Sheryl Leinbach is a fabulous writer. I was so drawn into her heart/mind.
